“Here They Do Everything for Us to Be In a Better Condition”: An Injured Couple From Kramatorsk Underwent a Rehabilitation Course From the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

Forty-six-year-old Svitlana and her husband Roman are from Kramatorsk. The year 2023 is a year of difficult trials for them: on 2 February, the couple came under another Russian attack on their hometown. They were just walking down the street when suddenly everything around them began to explode and catch fire... Both were seriously injured, especially in their legs. After many months of medical treatment, Svitlana and Roman underwent a rehabilitation course at a sanatorium in Zakarpattia, organized by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

“When we came under fire, all the information channels reported that the Foundation was going to help victims from Kramatorsk. We made a phone call and were told what help they could provide: with medication, treatment and then rehabilitation. But the hospital gave me a bone pin for free, and Roman did not require anything like that. We were really looking forward to the rehabilitation course after all the hospitals because it was time to start to walk normally. We are very grateful to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for helping us come here. The personnel here do everything for us to be able to walk better and be in a better condition,” Svitlana shares her feelings.

Most of all, she likes the swimming pools, both the standard and thermal one. When in the water, the woman forgets about her wounds and traumas. The family also likes massages, therapy baths and magnetic therapy. Svitlana says that thanks to the calm atmosphere, nature, and fresh air, her and her husband’s sleep has normalized, as well as their psycho-emotional state. She is sure that all this will bring a positive effect.

When asked about her dreams and plans after Ukraine’s Victory, Svitlana answers as follows:
“I really want people who left to return to my hometown. And my daughter, and all my relatives, all my friends, I want them to return home. I just want to wake up one morning and hear that the war is over.”
