People need not just food: UN representative about the Rinat Akhmetov Foundations help to civilians of the Donbas

16.08.2019

“The conflict in Eastern Ukraine carried away lives of thousands of people. Tens of thousands of civilians were wounded. Millions have fallen victim to it. For the United Nations, it is very important to participate in events that help strengthen peace. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides huge support to people of the Donbas, and it’s important that this help is not confined to deliveries of food and medications only.”

That was the opinion which United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Representative in Ukraine Pablo Mateu expressed after a picnic held in Zhovten Sanatorium near Kyiv. The choice of location for this event wasn’t accidental: this is the place where children participating in “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Rehabilitation of Wounded Childrenproject undergo a rehabilitation course. The informal meeting was attended by representatives of embassies, international and civic organizations, and public bodies. Together with officials, boys and girls participated in a burger cooking master class, had a lunch and made The Planet of Dream drawing.

“I am very happy to be here. During today’s event, I saw a lot of love from the parents. I saw how deeply the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is involved in it, and I saw a lot of potential and talent in these children. Every one of them can become an artist or a cook if desired. In fact, they could become anything they like. The most important thing they need is a bit of support. And support is what the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation gives to these children and their close ones,” Mr. Mateu added.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been consistently working on rehabilitation of wounded children since 2016. During these years, boys and girls living on both sides of the confrontation line underwent over 130 medical treatment and rehabilitation courses. This summer, another 22 kids became participants of “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Rehabilitation of Wounded Childrenproject.
