“The only things people need are love and peace”: Belgian ambassador about the significance of help from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

13.08.2019

“Helping people victimized by an armed conflict is extremely important, especially for children. The Foundation gives children love and support. Today, looking at these children, I recalled the song that has this verse: “All we need is love”. I just want to add: the only things people need are love and peace.” That was the opinion about the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s efforts which Alex Lenaerts, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Ukraine expressed during a picnic with children undergoing a rehabilitation course under “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Rehabilitation of Wounded Children” project.

“Our communication was very emotional. I was truly touched by the story of Milana Abdurashytova from Mariupol. The girl’s mom was killed, and Milana lost a leg in artillery fire. And after everything she had to endure, the child is still able to enjoy life, smile and be an optimist. She believes in miracles, and has dreams. And I was charged by that positive energy from Milana and other children whose behavior motivates us and whose posture tells us: “Life goes on no matter what”. That’s great,” Alex Lenaerts added.

The picnic for children was held in Zhovten Sanatorium near Kyiv, where wounded children undergo a rehabilitation course. This event was attended by representatives of embassies, international and civic organizations, and public bodies. Together with officials, boys and girls participated in a burger cooking master class, had a lunch and made the drawing Planets of Dream.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been consistently working on rehabilitation of wounded children since 2016. During these years, boys and girls living on both sides of the confrontation line underwent over 110 medical treatment and rehabilitation courses. This summer, another 22 kids became participants of “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Rehabilitation of Wounded Children” project.
