Medications for children: how to get aid?

04.04.2018

Once in a few months, mother of many children Iryna Y. comes from Donetsk to Mariupol to get the vital medications regularly given to her children by the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center. Her sons should take these medications every day in order to avoid seizures.

Iryna brings up three children alone. Her two boys – seven-year-old Taras and six-year-old Andrii – have severe diseases that manifested themselves after the outbreak of hostilities in Donbas. The mother is sure that these events caused strong emotional stresses in her children and affected their health.

The first attack accompanied by cramps happened in Taras in 2015. The ambulance took the child to the hospital, where the doctors diagnosed epilepsy. A year later, the younger Andrii was hospitalized into the intensive care unit. He was diagnosed with bronchial asthma. Iryna cannot work because of the diseases of her boys who need constant watch. They live on a welfare that is barely enough to feed her children. The family can’t afford anticonvulsants and antiasthmatics. The help from the Humanitarian Center is a true salvation for them.

“These medications are a huge help for us. Thanks to Rinat Akhmetov, my sons have a childhood and a future. If to take medications constantly, without interruption, systematically, there is a chance that my children will recover and forget about their diseases in the future,” Iryna says.

Helping seriously ill children, keeping the disease in remission and not allowing the child to become disabled are the main tasks of the “Medications for Children” Project. Salvage medications have been already issued to 1,286 children who suffer from epilepsy, diabetes and asthma. The Center regularly issues vital medications to such children.

How to get aid on the “Medicines for Children” Project?

The Humanitarian Center provides aid to all children under 14, living in non-government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk Regions, and internally displaced children who left for the peaceful territories of Donetsk and Luhansk Regions. The main aid directions are anticonvulsants and asthma medications.

To receive aid, it is necessary to:

  1. Call the Humanitarian Center's hotline 0-800-509-001 and leave an application.

  1. Answer the call of the Humanitarian Center's employee and find out what documents should be submitted and what pharmacy can the medications be received at.

  1. Get medications at the pharmacy by presenting the necessary package of documents. Medications are issued in pharmacies of Mariupol, Kramatorsk and Bakhmut.
