“Our Son Has Changed Significantly. He Has Become Calmer”: 6-Year-Old Bohdan From Dnipro, Who Suffered From an Air Strike, Underwent a Rehabilitation Course From the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

21.08.2023

On 26 May 2023, six-year-old Bohdan Khrom and his grandmother survived an air strike in Dnipro. The boy was thrown back by the blast wave. He received numerous injuries and bruises on his body and head, as well as psychological trauma. After medical treatment, the boy underwent a rehabilitation course from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation in a sanatorium in Zakarpattia.

“I saw an advertisement that the Foundation offers a rehabilitation course for children who suffered from explosions. I applied and within a week the Foundation’s staff called me and offered our son to undergo such rehabilitation. We agreed and are very grateful for this opportunity,” shares the boy’s mother Anna, who stayed with him in the sanatorium.

Bohdan and his grandmother were less than 100 metres from the epicentre of the explosion. After the incident, the boy did not want to go outside for quite a long time and was afraid of loud sounds, like cars and sirens, but the rehabilitation helps.

“For now, Bohdan has changed significantly. He calmly reacts to everything. He does not want to go home and says that he feels comfortable here. He has found a lot of friends here. They often play basketball and volleyball,” the boy’s mother says about their stay in the sanatorium.
The boy likes active sports, the swimming pool, and the salt therapy room the most. He also likes a stable with horses, where he brings some apples, and willingly takes a ride.

“When I found out that I would go to the sanatorium, I was glad to know that there is a swimming pool and sports here. I dream of becoming a football player. I also like local doctors very much. I think that I will get better and will be healthy again,” says Bohdan.

As noted by Snizhana Chebotareva, the chief physician of Borzhava sanatorium, Bohdan underwent a rehabilitation course to recover from the consequences of his injuries.

“In addition, he attends sessions with a psychologist, after which his mother shares very good feedback and notes the positive course. Compared to the first day, when they arrived, Bohdan is happier now. He smiles again,” says the doctor.
