"Thank you for the opportunity to restore my health": 9-year-old Yeva from Zaporizhzhia undergoes rehabilitation course from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

24.04.2024

At the end of December 2023, Yeva travelled with her mother by tram through her native Zaporizhzhia to a New Year's Eve party. But instead of a fairy-tale evening, the child ended up in hospital: during a rocket attack, the tram and the people on board were hit by shrapnel. Yeva sustained injuries to her body and head, and experienced severe shock. Recently, a 9-year-old girl has undergone a course of physical and psychological rehabilitation provided by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation at a health resort in Zakarpattia.

"There were still arrivals in Zaporizhzhia - we were saved by the fact that we came to the health resort to recover our health. I don't know what would have happened to Yeva... I am grateful to Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for the opportunity for the child to undergo rehabilitation," said mother Olena.

After the wounded girl was treated, her family turned to the Foundation for help. Yeva arrived for rehabilitation on the eve of her ninth birthday.

"I really like it here. It's quiet, there are no alarms, no explosions, and the air is very clean," says the girl. Her favourite things are swimming in the pool, looking at the mountains, and feeding horses with apples.

After her experience, Yeva was silent and withdrew into herself. Thanks to the help of the psychologists at the sanatorium, the child is now willing to communicate and smiles a lot. On her birthday, Yeva made a wish that by her next birthday, the war would end with Ukraine's victory.
To participate in the "Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Rehabilitation of Injured Children" project invites children under the age of 18 who have sustained physical injuries or wounds of any severity during the hostilities in Ukraine since February 24, 2022.

Since 2014, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has provided treatment and rehabilitation assistance to more than 11 thousand Ukrainians.
