“We Are Very Grateful for the Help and Health Recovery Course”: 15-Year-Old Khrystyna, Wounded in Zaporizhzhia, Underwent a Rehabilitation Course From the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

In July of this year, 15-year-old Khrystyna was walking in the park near her home in Zaporizhzhia together with her little brother. A missile strike occurred so suddenly that the air alert signal did not have a chance to be activated. She felt the blast wave suddenly, without warning. The girl suffered lacerations and shrapnel wounds. The other day, Khrystyna completed a rehabilitation course at a sanatorium in Zakarpattia that was organized by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

“I really like it here. It is quiet here, there is a nice swimming pool, a salt therapy room, and good food. There are people here who treat you cordially. When my mother told me that we received a voucher for the sanatorium, I was very happy and grateful that the Foundation helped us. We did not receive any other help from anyone,” the girl said.

Her mother, Viktoria, was on the way back to her children exactly at that terrible moment. A shell exploded over her head. The woman did not immediately see Khrystyna and her son: the girl was sitting on the ground, covering her head with her hands, and the father of another child covered the boy with his body. There were many injured people in the park, but from their family, only Khrystyna was injured. A shrapnel pierced her right shoulder blade. The wound had to be stitched up in the hospital. Later, the girl’s mother learned about a rehabilitation opportunity from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

“I wrote to the Foundation, and I was offered a voucher here. While staying here, Khrystyna has become more cheerful. She likes it very much, and we walk a lot. We are very grateful for such a gift to us, for such a recovery course,” says Viktoria.
