Stop TB national project has been presented in Donetsk today.
 
As UNIAN reporter informs, the project was initiated by SCM’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine.
 
The ceremony of signing the Ukraine Without TB Memorandum on cooperation between the government, business, and the public to fight against TB was held in the course of project presentation. The Memorandum was signed by Rinat Akhmetov, MP of fifth convocation and President of Foundation for Development of Ukraine, and Donetsk region authorities.
 
The Memorandum sets forth principles and approaches to consolidate efforts of all stakeholders committed to tackling the TB problem.
 
The ceremony of signing the Ukraine Without TB Memorandum followed the presentation of the Regional 5-year Program on Fighting TB Epidemic in Donetsk Region in 2007-2011. The program was initiated by Donetsk Regional State Administration, Donetsk Regional Council, and the Foundation for Development of Ukraine. The program includes a number of measures on TB prevention, diagnostics and treatment, as well as raising awareness about the problem and promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
 
The regional program will be financed by the Foundation for Development of Ukraine (around UAH 50m), the regional budget (around UAH 50m), and the budget of cities located in Donetsk region (around UAH 17m).
 
As R.Akhmetov told reporters, the problem of TB is much more serious than it seems to be. He said the disease had hit his family too. His brother suffered from TB, but being supported by the family he recovered. Of course, he was treated by the best specialists, said R.Akhmetov
 
"Today we have a real chance to stop the epidemic. Obviously we can defeat the disease quickly and effectively only if we do it together. For this reason, we strongly hope for support and understanding. I would like to express my gratitude to everybody, who provided the chance for the government and business to consolidate in the drive against TB epidemic for the first time in Ukraine", said Donetsk governor Vladimir Logvinenko commenting on the Memorandum.
