In April 2007, Foundation for Development of Ukraine in cooperation with the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine initiated a contest for the best coverage of TB epidemics in the regional media held within the framework of the national program "Stop TB in Ukraine".
 
The contest was held among print media, Internet editions, information agencies, TV and radio broadcasting companies. During the contest a number of TB-related materials considerably grew, thus proving the relevance of the problem and people's involvement.  
 
Therefore, 56 editions (212 publications) took part in the print media contest. There were
17 nominees and 57 publications in the electronic media contest.
 
The winners received the following awards:
 
1. For the best coverage of TB epidemics by print media, information agencies, and Internet editions:
 
1. 1st place - Vecherniaya Makeevka newspaper, Makeevka
2. 2nd place - Kray Kamenetskiy newspaper, Kamenets-Podolskiy
3. 3rd place - Chernomorskie Novosti newspaper, Odessa
 
2. For the best coverage of TB epidemics by TV and Radio broadcasting companies:
 
1. 1st place - Skif-2 TV and Radio Company, Konstantinovka, Donetsk region
2. 2nd place - Krym State TV and Radio Company, Simferopol
3. 3rd place - Sumy Regional State TV Company, Sumy
 
All winners will be awarded the fixed cash prizes:
 
1. 1st prize - UAH 20,000;
2. 2nd prize - UAH 10,000;
3. 3rd prize -   UAH 5,000.
 
Also, the contest jury selected 30 journalists who were awarded for their active and deep coverage of TB epidemics subject to consent of their editorial offices. The award includes a free 3-day training to be held in Yalta in October 2007 (travel expanses, costs for meals, accommodation, excursions to be covered by the Foundation for Development of Ukraine).
