Rinat Akhmetov allocated UAH 10m to help all victim's of gas explosion in Dnepropetrovsk
On 15 October 2007, the President of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine expressed his condolences to families affected by gas explosion in Dnepropetrovsk. The Foundation made a decision to allocate UAH 10m to help all tenants residing at 127 Mandrykovskaya st., Dnepropetrovsk.
Rinat Akhmetov emphasized that our duty today is to never stand back. The main thing is people whose life turned into a tragedy within one minute, whose weekend comfort plunged into horror and fear.
50% of the amount allocated by the President of the Foundation will be given to families whose family members died in the gas blast, and the other 50% - to families who have lost their shelter.
On 16 October, the Foundation for Development of Ukraine in tandem with local authorities, public organizations, and, the main thing, the tenants of the destroyed building established a Coordinating Council to be in charge of organizing help for the victims. The Council will supervise the target use of the funds, thus ensuring the social justice based on extent of the losses.
Anatoly Zabolotny, Director of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine, and Yuriy Vilkul, the Chairman of Dnepropetrovsk City Council, will be the cochairmen of the Coordinating Council. Representatives of public organizations, a representative of mass media and three tenants of the destroyed building will become the members of the Councils.
As soon as the State Commission for emergency recovery announces the list of dead, we will immediately start paying aid to the victims affected by Dnepropetrovsk tragedy. The aid first will be paid to families who lost their members or to their direct relatives.
The cash will be transferred to the victims' personal accounts.
All payment will be effected by the end of 2007 irrespective of the payments to be made by the Government but with regard to decisions and conclusions to be made by the special State Commission.
"The aid will be rendered to anyone who needs it. The Coordinating Council established by the Foundation will control every payment," Anatoliy Zabolotny stated.
