Foundation for Development of Ukraine (SCM's Corporate Foundation) Presents Campaign “Developing Country: Studying History – Making History”
The Foundation for Development of Ukraine (FDU) presented campaign “Developing Country: Studying History – Making History” on 22 November. The project will be in action until the end of November backed by the Department of Science and Education of Donetsk Regional State Administration. The campaign will cover 917 secondary schools in towns and districts of the region, 55 education institutions run in the region, and 113 vocational schools.
The FDU in team with Den Newspaper will hand over books on history of Ukraine from Library of Den Newspaper to school libraries. The books feature several centuries of history of our forefathers – from the Scythian times to dramas and developments of the 20th century.
All education facilities will also receive a subscription to Friday edition of the newspaper that covers cultural issues, social problems, as well as articles about history and education.
Presentation of the campaign opened a meeting of chiefs of education departments of Donetsk Region. The project was represented by Anatoliy Zabolotny, Director of Foundation for Development of Ukraine; Jock Mendoza-Wilson, Director of International and Investor Relations at System Capital Management, and Darya Kasyanova, PhD in Economy and project manager at the Foundation for Development of Ukraine.
Anatoliy Zabolotny addressed the delegates with a welcome speech, described the history of creation of the Foundation, as well as its goals and objectives. He also noted that the idea to hold the campaign came from the Foundation and Den Newspaper represented by its editor-in-chief L. Ivshina.
“These books are primarily intended for teachers as we regard the articles which they contain as a source of additional information to the existing text books on history. We hope these books will help students develop an analytical and well-considered approach to learn the history of their fatherland, and also boost their interest to studying this important subject. We strongly believe that giving students a chance to get answers to questions on the present and the past helps us bring up a well-educated generation with its own opinion and desire to build the future of its motherland. Historia est magistra vitae – history is the teacher of life. We are confident we can bring up both full-role members of the European community and an honourable generation that will build the future of Ukraine”, underlined Anatoliy Zabolotny.
Jock Mendoza-Wilson in turn noted that: “SCM's Corporate Foundation for Development of Ukraine” is an integral part of SCM’s commitment to principles of corporate social responsibility. As a business SCM seeks to encourage growth and development of Ukraine. Investments in education through the Foundation are one of many ways for us to give support to oncoming generations in Ukraine. We are particularly pleased to support this excellent educational initiative that will provide more than a thousand of school libraries in our native Donetsk Region with books on the Ukrainian history”.
Darya Kasyanova, project manager at the Foundation, presented a program “Professional Career Guidance” that assists the youth in making the right career choice. She pointed out that "the project has been realized online and expected to guide modern youth towards a conscious choice of their future job depending on their individual psychological abilities. Another goal is to show the real situation with lack of professionals in the market of Ukraine”. The project seeks to prove that technical and vocational occupations can be as successful as a prestigious higher education; reveal market development trends in different regions of Ukraine; improve the negative image of “low-rate” occupations; and provide users with necessary contact information about state and non-governmental organizations which deal with career guidance and employment.
Following the presentation the Foundation said a word of thank-you to the Department of Education for understanding and support in project implementation as well as expressed hope for future cooperation. In turn, the Donetsk Regional Department of Education and Science awarded the Foundation with a letter of appreciation for encouraging development of culture and education in Donetsk Region.
