Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation for Development of Ukraine Fluoromobile Detects Eight Active TB Cases in Kiev
On 29 March, Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation for Development of Ukraine jointly with the Main Healthcare Department of Kiev City State Administration completed the free photofluorographic examination of Kiev residents and city guests. The team of professional radiologists operated at the Yuzhnyi railway station for a week. In total, 597 persons were examined, got an X-ray and, if necessary, were referred to a doctor. The team detected eight active TB cases, two relapse cases and three suspected TB cases. One person was diagnosed with cancer and one person was referred for further examination. 97 persons were diagnosed with lung diseases (bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.).
According to the data of the Main Healthcare Department of Kiev City State Administration, 950 Kiev residents were infected with TB in 2010, and in early 2011 17,107 TB patients were in follow-up care. The disease incidence rate decreased by 2.6% as compared to 2009 and in 2010 amounted to 82.9 cases per 100 thousand people.
As you remember, Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation for Development of Ukraine has been implementing the large-scale Stop TB program since 2007. In 2010, the Foundation has been selected as the main recipient of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria under the grant to fight TB epidemic in Ukraine. The total amount of the five-year grant for Ukraine amounts to approximately USD 95 million. The Foundation also continues to invest its own funds in the program.
