Shelling cannot stop the Mobile Teams Of Survival Kits Issuance

21.05.2018

The unique system of survival kit delivery to population of the "gray zone" developed by the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center has been operating  21 May 2015. The basis of this initiative is mobility, flexibility, speed. During three years of activity the mobile teams of humanitarian aid issuance conducted 582 visits and issued 443 703 food packages.

People residing in the "gray zone"need help the most– shelling still continues in those territories. The civilian population lives under extreme conditions, the infrastructure has been destroyed, jobs are hard to be found. The mobile teams of humanitarian aid issuance of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center bring food to people who do not have any other help.

For example, the village of Peski. Before the outbreak of hostilities it had a population of almost 2500 inhabitants, today only 12 people live there. Only 38 inhabitants live in Nevelske instead of 400. Nearly all of the young people left Nevelske at the onset of the hostilities. A few families have remained — they had no other place to go and no money to do it.

Vodyanoye, which is the closest village to the Donetsk airport, as well as Peski and Opytnoye, is inhabited by 78 people instead of more than 300. There is not a single house which was not hit by shells. Before May 2014, about 200 people lived in a small village of Severnoye in Donetsk region, where there is just one street. According to media sources, today there are only 31 inhabitant there, one of whom is a child.

Not only local resident are under fire, but also mobile issuing points  of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center. Thus, one of such points recently came under fire in the nearby front-line village Zhovanka.

Mobile teams of the Center were issuing survival kits to the civilians of Bakhmutka, Pisky-2 and Zhovanka (where there are 120 beneficiaries, mostly elderly people) when the grenade attack began. But this did not stop anyone, since it became the norm for the mobile teams to save people.

To date, the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center provides assistance to residents of 85 settlements affected by the armed conflict. Fixed issuing points are opened, where people receive food packages. And in places where there are no roads and transport links, people are provided by the mobile teams of humanitarian aid issuance . Only in May of this year, according to Mikhail Katerinchak, the head of the project "Aid to the Population" of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, survival kits will be delivered to 32 settlements - 19 thousand people will receive help.

"By focusing on people, on achieving high goals — saving people from hunger, saving their lives — the Foundation created completely new systems and accumulated a unique experience,  which it is ready to share. The experience, in which such major organizations as the United Nations and the International Red Cross are already interested and highly appreciated", says Roman Rubchenko, director of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

According to the UN data, today Ukraine is the only European country whose residents are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, primarily in food. The main task of Rinat Akhmetov Center that operates for the fourth year is to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the Donbass.
