Thanks to Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s programme, Ukrainians receive timely diagnostics

31.01.2018

This year, more than 100 internally displaced  children, as well as adults, will be able to undergo a free oncological examination on high-tech equipment installed by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation in oncological dispensaries in Western Ukraine. In addition, the Foundation will purchase supplies for linear accelerators in oncology clinics of Lutsk and Rivne.

“There is no examination without supplies. In order to see the neoplasm in the human body, the doctors need a contrast agent and a system for its infusion into the body. It is the Foundation that purchases such sets for computer tomographs in six cities of Ukraine,” said Vladyslav Denysenko, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s project manager. “Between 2008 and 2014, thanks to “Cancer can be cured” program, 15 units of the up-to-date medical equipment were purchased for the detection and treatment of cancer. Now the Foundation buys the supplies for this equipment, which makes it possible to conduct a free survey of especially vulnerable categories of internally displaced patients.”

With the outbreak of hostilities, the main efforts of the Foundation were aimed at saving lives of the people who found themselves in the military conflict zone in Donbas. Nevertheless, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation continues to deal with cancer problems in Ukraine. After all, according to the National Cancer Institute, more than 400 people get to know that they have cancer in our country every day. More than 30% of all oncological cases are diagnosed at later stages.
