International Day of Disabled Persons: to remember and to help

04.12.2017

About 2.8 million of disabled people now live in Ukraine. The war in Donbas made adjustments to these disappointing statistics: more than 5,000 people were affected by fighting in the east of the country.

According to the latest opinion polls, only in the frontline zone about one hundred thousand families can not survive without humanitarian support. It is especially tough on the disabled people. In the context of the hostilities, they found themselves on the verge of starvation. The support, including for the disabled people, is provided by Rinat Akhmetov Center.

The Humanitarian Center has issued nearly 12 million survival kits within the entire period of the Center’s work, of which more than 600,000 sets have been received by the disabled people.

For more than three years, Rinat Akhmetov Center have been helping all unprotected categories of Donbas population in particular need. During the hostilities, the country's largest humanitarian mission has saved more than a million of lives. The old people, children and disabled people have been the target of the charitable organization for many years. They are the ones that need support most.

“This is one of the most socially unprotected categories of civilians in Donbas. Pensioners, single mothers and fathers, families with adopted and disabled children also receive humanitarian aid,” said Oleksandr Vyshniakov, the Director of Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center.
