The Humanitarian Center issued more than 3,000 vital medications to Donbas children

03.11.2017

After the beginning of the hostilities in Donbas, thousands of civilians in Donetsk and Luhansk regions were deprived of qualified medical care and medications. However, children remain most vulnerable in this situation.

One of them is a seven-year-old Nazar from Alchevsk. The boy has been fighting diabetes for a year already. To determine the right dose of insulin, the child needs expensive visual blood glucose test strips - about two hundred a month. But they are unobtainable in his home city. Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center helped to acquire these special consumables for measuring the blood sugar level.

"Our family found itself in a dangerous place in tough times and this help is very important for us now. Many thanks to Rinat Akhmetov for not forgetting about us," says Roman, Nazar's father.

Under the project "Medications for children", the Center provides help to children living on the uncontrolled territory of Donbas, as well as to children from the families of displaced residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The medications are issued in pharmacies of Bakhmut, Kramatorsk and Mariupol.

"The Humanitarian Center’s "Medications for Children" project has provided assistance with vital medications to 1,249 children, from infants to 14-year olds, over two years of its work. During this time, under the project more than three thousand sets of medications were issued: 1,083 sets of antiasthmatics, 231 sets of insulin and 720 sets of visual blood glucose test strips," Oleksandr Vyshniakov, the director of Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, says.
