The help of the Humanitarian Centre is important for the majority of Ukrainians. BLOG by Rimma Fil, Coordinator of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Centre
In the East of Ukraine people suffer for the fourth year. There is a war, which brought a sea of grief and misfortune to the civilians, and most importantly – it took away the silence. There are still shelling of villages, injuries to civilians and devastation in military communiqués. In these absolutely inhuman conditions people do not live - they survive.
The news reports mention Donbas events less often. But the problem and trouble remained. The longer they last, the more Ukrainians realize that the civilians need help. They are empathic and ready to help trusting this assistance to volunteers and philanthropists at the same time.
This is evidenced by the results of last year December survey conducted by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology. According to sociologists, the Ukrainians put most trust in church and volunteers. More than 53.5% trust people who, on their own initiative, help those who suffer more than themselves. That is, they trust those who help with their deeds.
Trust is a very important and multifaceted concept. It can be achieved only by meticulous, hard and very systematic work. This work is not reckoned in hours at the table, but comes from the heart.
Since the beginning of hostilities, the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Centre has been helping people daily, acting solely on the principle of helping those where assistance is most needed and those who need it most. Old people, disabled people and children - many of them simply would not have survived without the help of the Centre. During its operation, nearly 12,000,000 survival kits have been issued that is more than 130,000 tons of products.
More than 50,000 people received targeted help and more than 8,700 people were provided with treatment, almost half of them were children.
Behind these huge numbers are human lives. The lives of abandoned old people, the lives of little sick children, the lives of the most vulnerable and unprotected ones.
Each story is a huge tragedy where a dilemma rising before a person is to live or not to live...
According to a survey conducted in August of 2017, the absolute majority of the country's population, almost 80% of people, positively assess the work of the Humanitarian Centre and consider its work to be very important.
This figure is very high. It's not just figures and a score. It’s attitude and trust. These are the very reciprocal and sincere feelings of ordinary people whom Rinat Akhmetov has helped and still helping. Well, it cannot be otherwise, because his assistance to compatriots is sincere and goes from the heart.
