06.10.2017

In Mariupol, a meeting was held in a round table format, during which representatives of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation shared practical experience in the implementation of the "Mentorship" project.

In Ukraine, about 110,000 children live in residential institutions. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is one of the few charitable organizations that launched the project, the goal of which is to prepare orphans and children deprived of parental care for an independent adult life. In 2016-2017 the Foundation successfully launched the pilot project "Mentorship".

"As a result of the project, 107 potential mentors were prepared, 43 of them became individual mentors for children in residential institutions in Sviatohirsk and Mariupol," said Oleksandr Vyshniakov, the director of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

The representatives of the public, the Mariupol City Council, social services and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation joined the dialogue on the experience of launching the project of mentorship and the possibility of its launching at the national level, as well as the trends in mentorship and changes that may occur in the near future.

The participants of the discussion pointed out that the experience shared by the Foundation would help in the preparation of mentors for residential institutions in Mariupol. The deputy mayor Yaroslav Khotnianskyi noted that this project is also very important for the city: "Thanks to this work, children who find themselves in a difficult life situation can find themselves in the profession, acquire new knowledge and skills. This is a great, good deed."

Liudmyla Prunchak, the Head of Children Services, said that two residential institutions are now working in Mariupol, where 207 children are being brought up: "We are ready to work with the results of the experts of the Foundation and the project to facilitate the socialization of children who found themselves in a difficult life situation."
