Three years ago the first truck convoy of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center started out for Mariupol

22.08.2017

The very same day three years before, on 22 August 2014, the first truck convoy with humanitarian aid from the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center started out for Donbass. This was one of the first steps in the activities of the largest humanitarian mission in Eastern Ukraine.

The first truck convoy (from Dnipropetrovsk to Mariupol) included 60 semi-trailer trucks. People living in the zone of military conflict received the most urgently needed things: food, kits for kids, personal hygiene products. So, we managed to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and saved a lot of human lives.

Since then, the humanitarian aid from the Humanitarian Center to the local residents of Donbass has become regular; it is monthly rendered to thousands of civilians living in the near-front zone.

From Mariupol, where the largest logistics center of the Humanitarian Center is currently located, humanitarian aid is sent to more than 70 points of the near-front territory of Donbass. The mobile charity teams deliver humanitarian aid to the remote settlements throughout Donetsk region which allows supporting maximum people in those places where it is impossible to open a stationary point.

For three years of the Humanitarian Center existence in Donbass there have been sent:

- 304 truck convoys;

- over 6500 cars;

- over 130 thousand tons of food products.

The mobile charity teams made 471 tours; the volunteers delivered more than 350 thousand food packages to the civilians.

25 stationary points for provision of humanitarian aid keep functioning on the Ukrainian territorial footprints and in the ‘grey zone’.

‘When establishing the Humanitarian Center, Rinat Akhmetov had no purpose other than to help civilians of Donbass to survive. Nowadays, the Humanitarian Center is proud of saving more than a million of human lives. For every person our help is a condition for survival. We do believe that the piece will triumph over our country but now there are people who extremely need our help,’ Aleksandr Vishnyakov, director of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, highlighted.
