Sofia Tolmacheva, the oldest local resident of Pisky, received aid from the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center
On August 16, the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center delivered drugs and food packages to Sofia Antonovna Tolmacheva, the oldest local resident of Pisky (Donetsk region). A year ago, a 78-year-old granny Sonya, as she is called by a few neighbors living in the near-front village, tried to shelter during the shelling, but stumbled, twisted her ankle and suffered a closed displaced fracture of the hip. At that time, the Humanitarian Center helped the woman to purchase drugs and proximal femur plate for surgery.
The surgery was performed in Kurakhovo. Sofia Antonovna was actually put on her legs and got a chance to be ambulant. But the elderly woman needs drugs to maintain her health which are impossible to purchase in Pisky.
Recently, life-saving and essential drugs have been purchased for Sofia Antonovna and delivered directly to Pisky, which will be enough for her until the end of 2017. Among them there are antiarrhythmic and hypotensive drugs, analgesics, as well as drugs that strengthen musculoskeletal apparatus. In addition, we have also purchased anticonvulsant and anti-inflammatory drugs for the son of Sofia Tolmacheva, a person disabled from childhood, deaf-and-dump, who is not able to serve himself.
‘I had a big family but now I am left alone with my disabled son. In March, I will turn 79. I am bracing myself, crying and praying. When I hear gunshots, I go crazy - my heart is bleeding, pressure rises. I usually take 15 drops of motherwort and valerian, and then I calm down and fall asleep,’ granny Sonya tells her worries.
In Pisky there is no water supply, electricity, not to speak of pharmacies. The charity support of the local residents from this and the other near-front villages is the saving grace.
‘We really appreciate everything Rinat Akhmetov has done! He saved us and gave us an opportunity to enjoy life in this world. May he be spared!’ Sofia Tolmacheva said taking her drugs.
‘This was a personal decision taken by the founder of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center to help Sofia Antonovna. When establishing the Humanitarian Center, Rinat Akhmetov set ambitious goal for himself and the whole team of the Center to help the most disadvantaged groups of Donbass society - the elderly, children, disabled people and families with many children – who hard hit by the war. The Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center has saved over a million of human lives for three years thanks to such help!’ Aleksandr Vishnyakov, director of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, highlighted.
The Humanitarian Center continues to help people living in the firing line or affected by the military conflict. Within the framework of activity ‘Individual Requests’, 1604 people received assistance in urgent treatment and surgeries among them there are 670 adults and 934 children.
