On the front line: the surviving of Avdiivka and Krasnohorivka residents
Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center continues providing assistance to civilians living in the "hot zone". Over the last two months almost 12,000 food packages were issued in Krasnohorivka and Avdiivka. The situation is very tense in these towns now, they are located practically on the front line and suffer continuous shelling. People are killed, houses get destroyed. These towns still have operating fixed issuing points of the Humanitarian Center, they distribute humanitarian aid to the local population.
There are two adopted children, Nastia and Masha, living in Semenivka, a settlement near Avdiivka. Their father is very ill and he cannot stay with his daughters. The girls also lost their mother four years ago, the woman died of pulmonary edema. The children were sheltered by their aunt Kateryna.
"Living without mom is so bad, it's nothing like it was before. I miss her. There's no love which we used to have", – 12-year-old Mariia shares her feelings.
Aside from the adopted girls, Kateryna is also raising two sons of her own. They had to leave for Semenivka from Lastochkyne village after a shell hit their house. "We spent the night in the basement. It is very scary!", – Kateryna says.
Now the multi-child family survives due to the food packages from Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center. The family receives them constantly. But it was the first time for Kateryna to receive baby formula for the youngest son, two-month-old Mykyta.
"We express our gratitude to Rinat Akhmetov for his humanitarian aid, for helping people, especially our family. He really saves us", – Kateryna says.
The Humanitarian Center's employees say that despite the shelling all around, local civilians are still provided with humanitarian aid.
"It is planned to issue several hundred food packages to Avdiivka residents till the end of the month. This assistance is extremely important and needed by residents of the frontline towns. This is what helps many people to survive. Our main aid recipients are retired people, single parents, multi-child families and people with disabilities", – Mykhailo Katerynchak, the Head of "Humanitarian Aid" direction, shares.
Over the entire period of its operation Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center issued 11,767,000 food packages on both sides of the contact line. The Center's humanitarian aid saved more than 1,140,000 Donbas civilians.
