Modern Equipment Bought by Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine for DOKTMO Screened 100 People
On 19 February 2009, Brilliance 64 Plus CT scanner bought by Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine for Donetsk Regional In-Patient Territorial Association performed the 100th CT screening of coronary arteries.
The facility helped examine 76 men and 24 women aged from 37 to 86. Coronary artery disorders were detected in 82 patients. Later, based on the results of the comprehensive examination, DOKTMO heart surgery centre performed stenting of coronary arteries on 22 patients and aortocoronary shunting on 7 people. This helped avoid complications in affected coronary vessels including heart attacks.
CT scanner was bought by the Foundation to raise the level and quality of cancer and cardiovascular diagnostics. The facility remains unrivalled in Ukraine.
At the first stage, DOKTMO medical staff were trained to diagnose cardiovascular diseases using the new scanner. Soon, the staff will take the second stage of training to improve their qualification in cancer diagnostics.
"Introduction of the new facility has noticeably raised the accuracy and quality of cardiovascular diagnostics, extended the scope of medical help, consultations and diagnostics, as well as introduced new advance standards of cardiovascular diagnostics and treatment", said Tatiyana Bakhteyeva, Head of DOKTMO and MP.
Cardiovascular diseases account for 2/3 of the total mortality rate and cause 1/3 of all disability cases. In 2007, cardiovascular diseases killed 50,000 people in Donetsk oblast with 29,000 of them being victims of coronary heart disease.
