Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine Buys Artificial Respirator for Donetsk Burn Centre
On 3 February 2009 Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine handed over a modern artificial respirator to the burn centre at the Institute for Urgent and Reconstructive Surgery. The facility cost UAH 280,000.
The Foundation purchased the respirator upon request of the senior management of the centre. The centre accepts 15-17 seriosly injured patients monthly. Many of them need artificial respiration to survive. The burn centre has been receiving increasingly more patients recently: two major accidents hit coal mines of the oblast in December-January, and the number of civil fires has jumped too, as many try to warm their homes by self-made appliances.
"The facility for artificial respiration we’d used before was fit with respiration tubes", explained Emil Fistal, Head of Donetsk Burn Centre. "A special mask makes the new facility multi-purpose: it can be used to resuscitate both adults and children".
