11 million survival kits: Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, the largest humanitarian mission in Ukraine

20.12.2016

As of December 20, 2016 Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center issued 11 million survival kits to Donbas civilians.

123,000 tons of food were delivered to the Center's logistic warehouses in Donetsk and Mariupol to form and issue this amount of packages. To transport the entire volume of humanitarian aid to Donbas the Center sent 279 convoys consisting of 6,185 heavy-duty trucks.

"Every month our food aid is received by nearly 400,000 people on both sides of the contact line. According to social research, three-quarters of all humanitarian assistance, received by civilians in Donetsk region, are coming from the Center. It is priority for Rinat Akhmetov to help his compatriots affected by the war. We don't know a single case, when assistance, coming during military actions from one person, helped more than one million people", – Rimma Fil, the Coordinator at Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, shared.

Over 28 months of the Center's operation food products from the Center were received by civilian population in 500 settlements of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Humanitarian Center provides assistance on both sides of the contact line.

"In 2016 special attention was paid to the "grey zone". People there live under continuous shelling, with no means of subsistence and security. According to our data, "grey zone" has one of the greatest demands for food products. Our mobile volunteers reached the villages on the very contact line, now we are trying to provide them with regular food deliveries. In 2016 the Humanitarian Center managed to cover 90% of settlements along the contact line with its humanitarian aid and issue 257,000 food packages there", – Rimma Fil shared.

Another very demanded direction of the Center's activity in 2016 was targeted medical assistance. As of today, 7,660 people got help, more than 3,000 of them were children. 1,453 sets of medications were received by severely ill children as part of "Medications for Children" project.

This year the Center launched a project called "Rehabilitation of Injured Children". 57 boys and girls, who got injuries due to hostilities, undertook rehabilitation in specialized health centres and received rehabilitation equipment.

In the coming 2017 the priority of Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center will be delivery of food packages to civilian population, rehabilitation of injured children, "Medications for Children" program and conduct of life-saving surgeries for Donbas children.

The first convoy of 2017 loaded with food will set off for Donbas on January 10. The same day mobile team of volunteers is planning to deliver food products to residents of Pisky and the adjacent settlements.

Food aid in 2017 will be issued on both sides of the contact line with a focus on the "grey zone". This is more than 50 villages and settlements located next to the contact line.
