Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation for Development of Ukraine and State Department on Penalty Execution held a joint working meeting on 22-23 September. They discussed how Ukrainian legislation can be improved in the area of provision of medical help to TB-infected prisoners and people staying in pre-trial establishments.

The meeting was attended by representatives of medical units at correctional institutions in 12 Ukrainian regions, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine.

The meeting marked the beginning of a planned series of meetings to develop amendments for regulatory documents. The results in form of drafts of new documents will be considered at meetings of inter-agency task group, which will develop projects and work to improve legal acts on TB. The group was initiated by the Foundation and will belong to the Ukrainian Ministry of Public Health.

The Foundation has taken up this activity under Stop TB project to ensure systemic changes by improving legal framework in the area of provision of medical help to people facing TB including the criminal and correctional system.
