On 1 September, the Foundation for Development of Ukraine organized a celebration for children living in family-type orphanages of Donetsk oblast to mark the Day of Knowledge. All in all, Donetsk oblast runs 11 family-type orphanages with 98 children. The event was held under Foster Care Promotion and Family Building Project.

The Foundation actively helped prepare children for the new school year by buying encyclopedias, books, toys, vouchers for stationery and clothes for the Day of Knowledge. The event was held with support of the Department for Family, Youth, and Sport as well as the Regional Department for Children Affairs. The holiday was also attended by Yelena Petryayeva, Deputy Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration.

“Encouraging family building is a priority for the Foundation”, said Project Manager Darya Kasiyanova. “The project comprises certain steps to provide material facilities for brining up children orphans in families (four family-type orphanages will be built in Donetsk Oblast this year) as well as utmost efforts to ensure legislative backing of these types of upbringing. Our specialists are working in tandem with the Ministry of Family, Youth, and Sport to develop a bill On Guardianship, Patronage, and Adoption.
