RSS Situation in Ivano-Frankovsk region at 16:00

Food kits have been delivered to remote villages of Dovgopolye and Konyatin of Chernovtsy Region, representatives of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine (FDU) report from HQ in Verkhovin. To pack new food kits, the Foundation has bought extra flour, butter and canned beef for UAH 30,000. Villages of Verkhovinsk district in Ivano-Frankovsk Region and two settlements of Chernovtsy Region have been saved from starvation.

FDU's Svetlana Panyushkina has been flying by helicopter to hard-to-reach settlements for the second day. She says people aren’t nervous much any more. They know the food will come and wait for the helicopter. Local city councils are notified in advance of arriving shipments. Channel 5 journalists have flown with military officers and Foundation representatives today and seen how food is dropped from air onto Golovy Village. They put their cameras aside and started to help distribute the aid.

In some villages people begin reconstructing houses and roads without assistance. Men from Dzembronya Vilalge went by helicopter to get fuel to tank their vehicles and start fixing roads without having to wait for help.

Military helicopters have turned into transportation vehicles for civilians. People who have learned about HQ in Verkhovin District approach the Foundation for assistance. The range of problems is vast with children being left without parents or adults caring for old parents. But the most dreadful is when someone needs emergency aid in a hard-to-reach place. So, the Foundation employees are waiting for the helicopter to take them to Grinyava village, where a baby needs urgent help.

Evacuating people in a grave condition that need medicines and medical assistance is next on the agenda. Every village has people after stroke or diabetes, with cancer or complications of other illnesses. Today FDU's Svetlana Panushkina will start making lists of sick people and required medical help for 38 villages in Verkhovinsk district left without road communications.
