Cultural expedition "Ukraine. A country of live architecture" was launched. The expedition was organized by SCM Foundation for Development of Ukraine
Cultural expedition "Ukraine. A country of live architecture" was launched in Donetsk on September 18, 2006. This expedition will give rise to a same-name long-term project for creation of Ukraine's first encyclopedia of architecture. SCM Foundation for Development of Ukraine is the project founder and organizer of the expedition.
The expedition will provide an opportunity to consolidate the architectural potential of various regions of Ukraine. The materials collected in the course of expedition will be included into a pilot edition of electronic encyclopedia of Ukrainian architecture.
The expedition itinerary will cover Sviatogorsk, Poltava, Glukhov, Chernigov, Kiev, Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy, belaya Tserkov, Lutsk, Lvov, Chernovtsy, Kamenets-Podolskiy, Odessa, Sudak and a number of other cities. The expedition will be completed on October 5, 2006 in Kiev by opening the photo exhibition "Ukraine. A country of live architecture" within the framework of unveiling Ukraine's first Architecture Museum to be located at the Metropolitan's Residence in the territory of the National Reserve Sophia Kyivska.
"Ukraine has a colossal architectural heritage which is very precious as the Ukrainian architecture is live and spiritual. The fact that there is no modern encyclopedia of architecture in Ukrainian seems strange. We made a decision to initiate such collection of materials and will try to involve as many partial people to this project as possible. On October 5 we plan not only to present the first findings of the expedition to the public but also to give them as the museum specimens to Ukraine's first Architecture Museum to be unveiled in the Metropolitan's Residence, a unique monument to Ukrainian baroque, restored with the help of the Foundation," Anatoly Zabolotny, Director of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine stated.
Photos and encyclopedia materials about dozens of Ukrainian architectural facilities will be included into the pilot edition of the encyclopedia. To determine the itinerary of the expedition we involved the following experts in the history of architecture: Nelia M. Kukovalskaya, Director of the National Reserve Sophia Kyivska and Oleg A. Grauzhis, a member of Guardian Council of the National Reserve, Chief Architect of Kiev National Research and Development Institute "Ukrrestavratsia".
