 11.11.09 - Round table: "A/H1N1 - the Epidemic of Fear: Full Information about Swine Flu"

Tomorrow, on 11 November, Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine is holding a round table for the mass media involving international and Ukrainian experts.

 

The Foundation has invited Igor Nikanorov, Senior Research Fellow of Research Institute of Influenza of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Saint Petersburg, to Kiev to answer the questions of Ukrainian journalists. The expert will assess the situation in Ukraine and inform about the latest research and the vaccine developed by the Russian scientists.

 

Alexandr Grinevich, Director of the Centre for Influenza and Acute Respiratory Disease, will report on the latest flu and ARVI morbidity, flu complications and what Ukrainians die of? What drugs is it better to take?

 

Why did panic seize Ukrainians and why did the drugs disappear from the drugstores? The psychotherapist Oleg Chaban, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Professor of Psychiatry, will explain how to resist provocation and intimidation.

 

Children and flu – protecting children, preventive measures and vaccination – will be covered by Tatyana Kaminskaya, Head Doctor of the City Children's Clinical Infection Hospital.


Health care managers representing the World Health Organisation and USAID will shre the advice of the international community and provide help to Ukraine. They will also inform about A/H1N1 in other countries - statistics, methods of the epidemic spreading prevention, vaccination and treatment.


The issue of timely immune response to A/H1N1 and Ukraine's readiness for the epidemic will be covered by Oleg Nazar, Chief Immunologist, Head of the Kiev Centre for Clinical Immunology.
