14.04.2009 - Master-Class for Media "How Ukrainian Laws Kill Charity"
On 14 April, Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine will hold a master-class for media focused on the changes in the Ukrainian laws. The need of legislative changes is down to a great number of problems, which benefactors and recipients face. To this end, the Ministry of Culture together with public experts has developed a draft of the Law "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Charity and Charitable Organisations"". The legislative problems will be highlighted at the master-class by the leading law experts and executives of charitable organizations, who have experienced imperfections of the current law.
Participants of the master-class:
- Anatoliy Zabolotny, Director of Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine
- Ruslan Kraplich, President of the Ostrozhskys Princes Foundation
- Aleksandr Vinnikov, Board Chairman of the European Law Network
- Maksim Latsyba, programs manager of the Ukrainian Centre for Independent Political Research (UCIPR)
Key issues to be discussed at the master-class:
- Why do the injured and the poor have to pay taxes for charitable aid?
- Why can't Ukraine establish the Nobel Foundation?
- What prevents Ukrainians from supporting those, who need help?
- Why do Europeans spend more on charity despite higher taxes?
- Why can't we track how charitable funds were spent?
We invite media representatives to attend the master-class and join the experts to discuss important issues for the Ukrainian charity.
