Akhmetov Provides $40m to Fight Cancer with $10m Going to Western Ukraine

The Foundation for Development of Ukraine has provided $40m to fight cancer in Ukraine, said Ukraine's MP (Party of Regions) and President of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine Rinat Akhmetov. The official site of Party of Regions is covering the story as well.

“On the one hand there are good and top-skilled doctors, on the other hand – limited technical capacities. I think you are aware that cancer morbidity in Europe and the USA is higher compared to Ukraine, while the mortality is lower. Why? Because they invest much in early diagnostics and effective treatment. For this reason, I decided to provide $40m for fighting cancer with $20m to be allocated on Donbass region, $10m – on the National Institute of Cancer, and another $10m – on Western Ukraine”, said President of FDU.

He also pointed out that the money will be spent on buying hi-tech equipment to be used in oncology, radiology and neurology fields.

Ukraine will soon have two positron emission tomography (PET) facilities that let discover unique diagnostic information to change treatment tactics thus cutting treatment expenses. One PET scanner will be installed in the National Kiev Institute of Cancer providing free of charge service for residents from all Ukrainian regions. The other one will be delivered to the Donbass region to examine patients coming from southern and eastern Ukraine.
