Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation Launches Second Stage of Pirogovo Museum Restoration
Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine has launched the second restoration stage at Pirogovo National Architecture and Rural Life Museum.
Over 2009-2010, the Foundation intends to complete the repair of pedestrian roads and water supply system and focus on restoration of unique sites, including wind-mills in the villages of Gorodshche, Liventsy, Lyutenskiye Budishcha and Blagoveshchenka.
The Foundation also reminds that in 2008 the Museum restored five windmills from the villages of Vil'shanaya, Nurovoye, Sasinovka, Kononovka and Borovitsa.
Besides, in 2008 Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation helped restore the roofs of ethnographic exhibits, repair the lighting system of the exhibition and renovate many pedestrian roads. To ensure safety of the exhibits, the Museum received fire engines it had never had.
The National Architecture and Rural Life Museum received a grant for 2008-2010 of UAH 15m, the Foundation for Development of Ukraine informed. The total cost of works in 2008 amounted to over UAH 4m.
According to Anatoliy Zabolotny, Director of Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation, the goal of their cooperation with the Museum is to restore the infrastructure and exhibits of the unique site.
"We strive to make the Museum more comfortable for visitors and more modern. Therefore, we accepted the offer of the Museum and the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences to renovate the infrastructure elements of the Museum: roads, water supply and lighting", said the Foundation's Director.
"And, of course, the sites are most important. We will keep restoring the wind-mills and other exhibits. Much depends on the opinion of the Museum experts here: what exhibits should be rescued first of all", stressed Mr Zabolotny.
