A Boiler House Presented to Ptashenya Children’s Home
From now on Ptashenya children’s home will have an individual boiler house. This is a present made by Makeyevka City Council and Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine. The new boiler-house runs modern heating system matching European standards, thus being an unrivalled heating facility in the city.
The boiler was constructed to shortest deadlines - within just four months – and equipped with cutting-edge facilities including French boilers, remote controls, etc. The total cost of the project comes up to around UAH 400,000. According to Aleksandr Maltsev, mayor of Makeyevka, the Foundation for Development of Ukraine assisted in ensuring heat supply to the children’s home, while the deputies of Makeyevka City Council immediately approved allocation of a part of the sum needed.
Aleksandr Maltsev, mayor of Makeyevka city:
“The children’s home used to be connected to the central heating system, inherited from the Ministry of Coal. To be honest, we were not happy with the quality of heating, therefore we decided to build an individual boiler-house”.
The construction was a one-time campaign conducted by the Foundation for Development of Ukraine under the project “Foster care promotion and family building”.
Dariya Kasiyanova, project manager, the Foundation for Development of Ukraine:
“We do our best to help the children from such establishments find a family. We support family-type orphanages and foster families as well as cooperate with Magnoliya TV which has initiated the project “This child needs a family!” Our goal is to find families and parents for the biggest possible number of orphans”.

Currently the home hosts 39 children aged under five. There were more, but two children have been adopted recently. Svetlana Pakhom, director of Ptashenya children’s home, says that children receive here special care both from the staff and from ordinary people. The enterprises and the City Council are always very helpful. The only trouble was irregular heating supply.
Svetlana Pakhom, director of Ptashenya children’s home:
“Proper heating supply was my utmost desire from the day the home was opened. The central boiler house means the lack of heat. Therefore, I am really grateful to those who participated in the construction of the individual boiler-house. This is very important for us. Thank you very much to everybody: the Foundation for Development of Ukraine and Mr Maltsev for their warm attitude and kindness”.
The new boiler house was officially launched by Mr Maltsev in presence of FDU representatives and the children.
Aleksandr Maltsev, mayor of Makeyevka city:
“I am pleased to say today that this children’s establishment is cared for not only by Makeyevka but beyond. The most important thing I wish to us, adults, is to let this boiler house warm not only the rooms and our souls in respect to these children”.
The plans for the next year include improving and developing the territory around the home: to move the fence, enlarge the yard and build a summerhouse for kids.
