When meeting the staff of Donetsk Regional Tumor Center, Rinat Akhmetov announced he would increase investments to refit and renovate the facility by UAH 155m.

As Foundation for Development of Ukraine informed Korrespondent.net, the total budget provided by the Foundation to eliminate cancer in Donbass “now comes up to UAH 215m, with 165m being allocated for Donetsk Regional Tumor Center’s renovation and 50m to establish a diagnostics center based in Donetsk Oblast Clinical Territorial Medical Association”.

Diagnostics and treatment will also be improved at 5 municipal oncology dispensaries in Donetsk Oblast and 4 oncology departments based in municipal and regional hospitals.

The Foundation reports that Donetsk Regional Tumor Center will be overhauled under the Project “Cancer Can Be Cured. Timely Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment”.

Under the present project the Foundation earlier announced the decision to purchase positron emission tomography scanner (PET/CT), a laboratory for production of radiology pharmaceuticals, a gamma-camera and a cyber-knife for Donetsk Oblast oncology service. The Foundation has allocated UAH 100m with the facilities expected to be commissioned in 2009.

“We must create good conditions for effective treatment of cancer and efficient work of oncology service. Therefore, I decided to allocate UAH 115m to establish a tumor center in Donetsk Oblast that will meet the best European standards”, claims Rinat Akhmetov, President of Foundation for Development of Ukraine. “Moreover, I promise that I will reach every oncology dispensary and every oncology department in the oblast and create the most modern and the most favourable conditions for their effective performance”.
